WHEREAS, In 1980, the Alzheimer’s Association was founded by Jerome H. Stone and a group of researchers and family caregivers who wanted a national non-profit organization to support those affected by Alzheimer’s and to advance research. Since its founding, the association has grown to become a leading global organization for Alzheimer’s care, research, support, and research with a network of local chapters, volunteers, and support groups across the United States; and WHEREAS, In 1991, the Philadelphia Walk to End Alzheimer’s began as the Philadelphia Memory Walk co-founded by Orien Reid-Nix. It was the first of its kind and has grown into one of the most successful walks to bring awareness about Alzheimer’s. The “Memory Walk” name symbolized the heartfelt journeys of individuals walking in honor and memory of families and friends who faced Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia; and WHEREAS, The 2025 Philadelphia Walk to End Alzheimer’s, will be held on Saturday, November 8 th , it will be a moving celebration of community, hope, and remembrance, centered around the symbolic Promise Garden ceremony.
