Honoring and Recognizing Njemele Tamala Anderson for Over 20 Years of Teaching and Being Named Philadelphia Citizen 2025 Educator of the Year. WHEREAS, Njemele Tamala Anderson has dedicated over 20 years to educating Philadelphia students, creating classrooms that blend academic rigor, social justice, and liberatory education; as an English teacher at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber, her transformative approach has become a model for liberatory teaching throughout the City; and WHEREAS, Ms. Anderson’s classroom is a safe haven and a space for intellectual exploration, where students engage with works such as Bettina Love’s We Want to Do More Than Survive, connecting literature to their own lived experiences, and gaining the confidence to speak their truths often through projects that extend learning beyond the classroom and into the community; and WHEREAS, Ms. Anderson has dedicated herself to inspiring and mentoring a new generation of educators including students like Alden Page, her daughter Ansharaye Hines, and Councilmember Isaiah Thomas exemplifying the transformative power of representation and mentorship in education; and WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Citizen has named Njemele Tamala Anderson as the 2025 Educator of the Year for her tireless commitment to uplifting the City’s young people and modeling what it means to teach with humanity, dignity and purpose; and WHEREAS, Ms. Anderson exemplifies the highest ideals of teaching setting rigorous expectations while fost…
