Honoring and congratulating the St. Joseph’s Preparatory High School football team for their success in winning a PIAA 6A state championship. WHEREAS, The St. Joseph's Hawks beat Pittsburgh Central Catholic in a landslide victory, 35 to 6 on Saturday, December 7, 2024; and WHEREAS, After winning back-to-back state finals, the St. Joe’s Prep Hawks won their third straight championship title this year, securing what is their sixth out of the last seven PIAA 6A titles; and WHEREAS, In a display of teamwork, talent, and execution the Hawks ran the ball 80 yards for a touchdown on the very first play of the game; and WHEREAS, Khyan Billups ran the ball seven times for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns in the first quarter alone, helping to lead his team to a score of 28 to 6 over Pittsburgh Central Catholic by halftime; and WHEREAS, The team's hard-work, dedication, and commitment secured the Hawks their ninth State Championship title in the school’s team history; and WHEREAS, The St. Joseph’s Prep mission is, “as a Catholic, Jesuit, urban, college preparatory school is to develop the minds, hearts, souls, and characters of young men in their pursuit of becoming men for and with others,” and has demonstrated this with excellence in both athletics and academics; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and congratulates St. Joseph’s Preparatory high school football team, for their success in winning a PIAA 6A championship title.
