Recognizing June 7, 2025, as Black Men’s Wellness Day in the City of Philadelphia. WHEREAS, On June 7 of every year, the African American Male Wellness Agency hosts a Black Men’s Wellness Day event that offers participants free health screenings, engaging activities for children, programming for senior citizens, and live entertainment; and WHEREAS, A slew of health conditions such as prostate cancer and lung cancer disproportionately affects Black men. As a result, Black men are more likely to die from preventable diseases than their white counterparts; and WHEREAS, According to the African American Male Wellness Agency, the Black community has seen a 214 percent increase in opioid overdoses in the past ten years, 76 percent of Black children are unprepared for kindergarten, and 60 percent of Black men are at risk of having type 2 diabetes before they turn 55; and WHEREAS, The African American Male Wellness Agency was created in 2004 to reduce the health disparities that Black men experience. Since their inception, they have provided over 10,000 free health screenings and health-related resources annually; and WHEREAS, The African American Male Wellness Agency also has programming focused on fatherhood, financial wellness, mental wellness, and opioid awareness; and WHEREAS, The African American Male Wellness Agency has engaged more than 100,000 people across 24 cities annually, including Philadelphia, by delivering impactful services that extend life expectancy, bolster menta…
