Recognizing the month of April as “National Woodworking Month” in the City of Philadelphia. WHEREAS, Established in 1987 by the Woodworkers Guild of America, National Woodworking Month has been observed throughout the month of April to celebrate the rich tradition and enduring craft of woodworking; and WHEREAS, Woodworking encompasses cabinetry and furniture manufacturing, wood carving, carpentry, and woodturning, among others; and WHEREAS, Woodworking has deep roots, tracing back to ancient civilizations like Egypt, where artisans crafted furniture, boats, and has evolved through centuries, influencing cultures worldwide; and WHEREAS, From ancient times to the modern era, every civilization on the planet has used wood to create functional, elegant, and decorative products. There is woodwork from the ancient Greeks, Romans, and Chinese, and many other ancient societies around the world used woodworking in a variety of styles and techniques; and WHEREAS, The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America recognizes National Woodworking Month because union hands shape the spaces where people live, work, and gather, from formwork to finish carpentry.
