WHEREAS, Czerw’s Kielbasa has been a staple in Port Richmond since 1938 when Jan Czerw converted a horse stable into a shop, selling kielbasa, golabki, pierogi and other authentic Polish delicacies; and WHEREAS, For almost ninety years, the Czerw family has served not only traditional Polish food but also their community, becoming known for their generosity and commitment to assisting customers and neighbors in times of need; and WHEREAS, John Czerw, the grandson of Jan, had become the heart and soul of Czerw’s, carrying on his grandfather’s legacy, when he took over the shop with his older brothers Dennis and Jeff after their father Ted retired, providing the same authentic recipes to customers over the decades and treating all who entered the store like an old friend; and WHEREAS, John’s unwavering dedication ensured that the same cherished, authentic recipes were served for decades, and his warm spirit made every customer feel like family; and WHEREAS, John Czerw became a local legend, supporting neighborhood events, championing other local businesses, and forging lasting relationships throughout Port Richmond; and WHEREAS, John Czerw sadly passed away in June 2025, just 2 days shy of his 55th birthday, devastating the Czerw family and all those he touched with his kindness; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby renames…
