Honoring and recognizing the women of the Philadelphia Police Department during Women’s History Month 2026 for their dedication and service to the safety and well-being of the City of Philadelphia and its residents. WHEREAS, Women’s History Month 2026 is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the historic achievements, leadership, and enduring contributions of women in law enforcement throughout the City of Philadelphia; and WHEREAS, The history of women in the Philadelphia Police Department reflects the barriers women have faced and the progress they have achieved, dating back to the early 20th century when women were first granted limited and often unconventional roles within the force; and WHEREAS, The role of early policewomen was shaped by societal expectations of the time, often confining women to narrowly defined duties rather than affording them equal authority and opportunity within the department; and WHEREAS, Despite these limitations, the presence of early female officers marked an important step forward, laying the groundwork for future generations of women to serve in expanded and more impactful roles within the Philadelphia Police Department; and WHEREAS, Their leadership, collaboration, strength, and perseverance embody the highest standards of public trust and civic responsibility, serving as an inspiration to colleagues and to the citizens of Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and recogn…
