Resolution Proclaiming May 2025 as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Philadelphia. Whereas, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) have shaped the social, political, economic, and cultural fabric of this nation and this City; and Whereas, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month has its roots in a weeklong celebration that began in the first week of May 1979, which was eventually expanded to a month in 1990, and permanently designated by Congress in 1992; now therefore, be it RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby, proclaims May 2025 as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Philadelphia, urging all Philadelphians to join in recognizing the significant contributions of the AAPI community and to participate in events that celebrate their heritage and culture. Further Resolved, That an Engrossed Copy of this resolution be presented to Thu Pham, Vietnamese American Women CEO & Co-Founder of Caphe Roasters, as evidence of admiration and respect of this body. A portion of Caphe Roasters’s profits is donated to “12plus”, a nonprofit that supports high schools in Philadelphia. Further Resolved, That an Engrossed Copy of this resolution be presented to Ky Cao and Rick Cao, Chinese American owners of local apparel store P’s and Qs, as evidence of admiration and respect of this body.
